According to a call they received earlier that day, there were two small dogs living in a sewer that could use the help of an animal rescue team.
And this time around, Hope For Paws organization teamed up with Rescue From The Hart to collect and save these two dogs from their unsanitary lives in the sewer. Sadly, though, one of the two dogs was swept away by the storm from earlier that day and drowned. Leaving his companion alone and terrified. This must have been the scariest experience in his life! They knew that they had to hurry before this one disappeared as well. Time was not their friend!
When the two rescuers had arrived, they had to move very carefully not to have any accidents of their own. Because it was dark and the sewers were the last place anyone wanted to be and have an injury at the same time. After several more minutes of searching, they found the dog sitting just in front of one of the tunnels. They called out to him softly. It was important to gain his trusts, calm him down and not to alarm him. It spooked him anyway, however, and he immediately got up and started to run into the tunnel. Without hesitation the rescuers were quick to follow him inside which, fortunately, led to a dead end.
At the end of the tunnel, putting the snare around his neck was still a challenge despite there not being anywhere for him to run to.
Before anything else, his rescuers decided to focus on calming him down first. They couldn’t do anything with a petrified dog. After petting him gently and repeatedly telling him that everything was going to be alright, he started to relax. Eventually the brave rescuers were able to pick him up and bring him to the car. The terrified puppy needed to be checked out by a doctor to make sure he was ok. At the hospital, he was given a nice warm bath to soothe his nerves, during which he was given tiny bits of food for him to nibble on. It was difficult to gain his trust, since the little one suffered so much. But the hunger was stronger. Soon the doggy realised that he was in good hand. Finally he was safe and nothing could harm him now.
All clean and with a full stomach, his playfulness started to show and soon, he was ready to head to his foster home. He was named Bitty.
