There are times when you may want to concentrate on attack dog training.
This is a good thing to teach your dog, especially if you are concerned about your safety. You may think that your dog is not capable of being taught how to bite. But with a few training steps, you can do attack dog training.
Dogs are known to be aggressive about their territory. You can use this to your advantage and when you engage in attack dog training, you can teach your dog to attack when someone comes close to you or to your home or even to your vehicle. Here is a look at some basic steps that you will need to take to teach your dog to attack.
Attack dog training step 1 – use a toy or short rope
You can teach your dog to attack or bite or even defend you. The first thing you need to do is to use a toy or short rope. Start by giving your dog the command to sit. When he does sit, take the short rope or another toy and put it in front of him. Also, let him know that he is allowed to bite whatever is in front of him. Give the command to bite.
Attack dog training step 2 – reward positive behavior
When your dog bites on the toy or short rope, you know that he has understood what he should do. At this point, you need to praise him and perhaps even give him a treat as a reward for doing what he should be doing. Once he has the toy or rope in his mouth, do not try and get him to release it. Instead, allow him to run around and play with the toy in his mouth. The idea is to teach your dog to understand that he can play with the toy or rope that is in his mouth. This is his reward for biting on the toy or rope. Also, be sure to give him some affection to ensure that he feels that he has done something good.
Attack dog training step 3 – repeat but at a distance
Now, the next step involves doing the same thing but this time you need to put more distance between the dog and the toy. Start by giving the dog the command to stay put. Once he lies down, you can back up and then you need to give him the command to bite. If he does bite, then you should reward him and also let him play with the toy or rope to reinforce his training.
Praise his good behavior
Once your dog has the toy in his mouth, you must then teach him to release it by giving him the command Release. You can now move even further away from your dog and once you are far enough, give him the command to bite or attack. By this time, he should have got the idea and will attack on your command.
Attack dog training step 4 – use a bite sleeve
To take the training even further, you must now wear a bite sleeve on one of your arms. To do this exercise in a safe manner, make sure you position the arm with the bite sleeve on it as far from your body so that your dog cannot bite any other part of your appendage. Now, do the same things you did when using the toy.
If your dog does not show any interest in the bite sleeve, allow him to play with it. Repeat this exercise by increasing the distance between you and the dog. Soon, it will learn to attack the bite sleeve and you will have succeeded in teaching your dog how to attack.
