It is sad to think that some homeless animals get to suffer and endure the cold winter nights on the streets, alone. Luckily for a group of kittens, a stray dog was there with them to keep them warm for the night.
A driver was passing by a street somewhere in Ontario, Canada when he spotted a dog curled up on a sidewalk. He stopped to check the dog and to make sure that she was alright.
When the man approached the dog, he was surprised to see five tiny kittens snuggled in the pup’s fur. She was acting like their mama — keeping them safe and warm from the snowy, busy road.
It was evident that the kittens would not have made it without the stray dog. The driver picked them up and brought them to the Pet and Wildlife Rescue so they can be checked.
“We were all touched by the dog’s selfless act,” a shelter staff mentioned. “If not for the pup, those kittens would not have made it through the night,” he added.
The Pet and Wildlife Rescue is a non-profit organization in Ontario. Their purpose is to raise awareness about pet safety and take in stray animals who were surrendered and abandoned.
Upon observation, they found out that the kittens were covered with fleas. They were also positive with worm infestation, which the team immediately treated.
The kittens are now under the care of the rescue team and are getting healthier day by day. Their mama dog often visits them in the shelter.
No one knows if the dog and the kittens were dumped on the sidewalk together, or if the stray dog found them and decided to keep them warm. Whatever their story is, these animals’ resiliency is encouraging.
The mama dog has since been adopted, and the kittens will be up for adoption after a few months. Take a look at this responsible mama dog and her kittens in the video below!
