There are so many dogs living in shelters that have the potential to become amazing pets. A lot of these dogs lived as strays for a long time. They look worn out, and because no one is taking care of them, they eventually develop skin problems such as mange.
Because of how they look, people visiting the shelters looking to adopt dogs don’t even bother. The Great Pyrenees dog breed inherently has amazingly soft fur. The Great Pyrenees are very popular as pets because of it. However, a Great Pyrenees named Mooney lost all his coat because of living in the streets with no one caring for him.
Because of how Mooney looked, no one wanted to adopt him. Animal rescue coordinator Shereen pulled Mooney out of the shelter when she saw his pictures. When Shereen met Mooney, she was surprised at how sweet the dog was. Despite having a lot of health issues, Mooney remained loving and want nothing more than cuddles from Shereen.
Shereen took Mooney to the vet to see what kind of treatment Mooney needed to get well. Mooney weighed only a third of what he should be for his breed and suffered from severe mange and bacterial as well as fungal infection on his skin.
Shereen decided to take care of Mooney at her home. Shereen wanted to treat Mooney’s urgent medical issues first before he’s allowed to interact with other dogs. Mooney received medicated baths three times a week, and he also needed to take anti-bacterial and anti-fungal pills.
In a few short weeks, Mooney’s skin condition improved, and he also started gaining weight. After two months, Mooney was no longer contagious and was taken into a foster home. While there, Mooney began to interact with other dogs and got used to living in a home environment. Mooney recovered even further, and his soft, white fur started growing back.
After Mooney made a full recovery, he was finally adopted by an amazing family. Mooney finally gets a forever home that he deserved. He’s continuing to thrive, and his new family loves him so much. Here’s an inspiring video about Mooney making a great comeback after being sick for so long.
