It’s a common scene on the road – a dog gleefully letting the wind rush through his fur as he sticks out his head through the car window. It’s one of the little joys in life for them. But there are times when letting our dogs do this could result in a harrowing experience. This is what happened to a little white dog in Golden, Colorado.
A death-defying leap
Mike Kannely was driving steadily on a busy three-lane road with his wife, Erica, next to him. It was rush hour on Interstate 70, and vehicles were whizzing by. In an SUV in front of them, they saw a dog sticking his head out of the window. Half of the glass was rolled up, and they didn’t really think much of it.
Then, the dog left the window to be replaced by a smaller white pooch. This dog did the same thing but had a somewhat more unexpected and dangerous turn of events. Luckily, the Kannelys were filming the whole time and saw the entire thing unfurl.
The little dog suddenly jumped out of the window and roughly landed on the middle lane of the road. He rolled several times on the street, and it was evident that it would suffer some injuries. Thankfully, Mike was able to slam on his brakes and avoid hitting the pup. All the other drivers also saw what happened and stopped their vehicles too.
The dog stood up and started limping. His owner’s car pulled over immediately, and one of its passengers went down. He went over to the injured dog, picked him up, and brought him back to their vehicle. Then they sped off.
Erica was shocked at what she saw and realized the dangers of having dogs put their head out of a moving vehicle. She has dogs of her own, and up until then, she let them do the same. Now she said that she would never let her dogs do that anymore and shared the video online to let others know of the danger.
