Thousands of labs are known to test their products on animals. Beagle Freedom project helped rescue hundreds of these animals.
Saving the dogs
Beagle Freedom project’s recent rescue was from a laboratory in China. Twenty-five dogs who spent six years in the lab were rescued and brought to the shelter in Los Angeles, California, to get checked up.
When the rescuers opened the dog’s cages, the dogs ran out immediately and started playing with each other except for one. Echo was the dog who just sat inside of her crate, too afraid to come out.
A rescuer pulled the dog out of the cage and hugged her to make her feel safe. All other dogs were running around except for her.
When the rescuers took Echo to the vet, they found out that the lab tested their product on the dog’s eyes that caused her to go blind. The shelter felt that it would be a long journey before Echo could live her life normally.
The shelter was looking for volunteers to foster rescued dogs. When Hannah Babbit heard this, she immediately signed up.
Hannah went to the shelter to pick Echo up. The dog fell asleep in her arms, and she knew she had to do everything to help this dog.
Hannah and her dog, Gigi, welcomed Echo into their house with open arms. It was evident that Echo had never lived in a loving home.
Hannah took Echo for a walk. Echo didn’t know what was happening when her foster mom put on her collar. It was like Echo’s never been walked before. The minute Echo stepped on some grass, she would stop and steer in the opposite direction.
It only took a few days for Hannah to earn Echo’s trust fully. Every time the dog heard Hannah’s voice, her tail would wag.
When Hannah took Echo back to the vet, they discovered that one of the dog’s eyes was causing Echo pain. The vet decided to remove it to alleviate Echo’s pain.
It was after Echo felt comfortable that she blossomed into a goofball. The dog would run around and play with other dogs like she never did before. Hannah was so proud of Echo’s progress that she thought the dog was ready to be adopted.
Jenna and Jay saw a photo of Echo that the shelter had posted. They knew the dog would require extra love, care, and patience, and they wanted to be able to provide those for Echo.
The couple drove to the shelter to pick up the newest member of their family. When they got home, Echo immediately ran towards Jenna and Jay’s other dogs.
They all formed a bond quickly. Echo is part of a family for the first time in her life. Hannah was happy that Echo has a home and family she truly deserved.
