Service dogs are such huge help to people with disabilities. And that is exactly why this organization was established – Canine Companion for Independence, a nonprofit in California that seeks to train and deliver pooches to individuals in need!
When the coronavirus pandemic took place, the team behind it continued still its operation. However, as its delivery to different areas had become more and more difficult, the volunteers started considering giving up.
Thankfully, a group of pilots reached out to them and offered, can you believe it, to lend them their planes, and use their own fuel to have the dogs transported to those who are desperate for them!
According to the staff, they had a pretty huge number of requests on their list even before the outbreak began, so they feel they could not thank enough these men who have really stepped up to assist them in carrying on.
As for Captain Josh Hochberg, on the other hand, what they did was not work at all. And as proof that he had enjoyed well that task, he had adopted a puppy for himself!
With this, the organization has become more optimistic and is hoping it could get additional volunteer pilots with bigger planes! Yes, that’s right! Because, although it had got around 30 doggies to Texas, South California, and Oregon already, its tally of requests has been increasing quite quickly the past weeks.
So if you have acquaintances who can help the team, be sure to share this story to get them to involve. The number of who this nonprofit is trying to reach might only be very small as compared to the totality of those who need the assistance; still, at least with your participation, Canine Companion could ensure these individuals’ well-being entirely! And that’s already something!
